James Smith & Sons is an historic Victorian family business specialising in umbrellas, walking sticks and canes. Commonly known as "the Umbrella Shop", this immaculately presented Victorian outlet in the heart of London is a real gem. A family business since its creation in 1830, it sells every kind of umbrella, walking stick, mace and cane imaginable. Housed in an amazing building adorned with original hand-crafted fittings hidden behind a unique Victorian shop front, the shop's attraction doesn't simply lie in its high-quality, ever-practical range of goods. Entering in here is like stepping back in time, to an era when personal, bespoke service was the norm. Glossy, wicker baskets brim over with sleek, shiny walking sticks in every kind of English wood, while brightly coloured umbrellas with hand-carved handles jostle for space in fine, oak stands. Don't be fooled by the old-fashioned interior, though, both the fabrics and frames used here are the latest in terms of design and technology - James Smith & Sons were the first to employ the famous Fox Steel Frame. If you need an umbrella that will last forever or just want to experience a historic jewel in London's retail crown, look no further. Best for:
Umbrellas, walking sticks and canes, pure Victoriana, service and style.
