Buzz about this members club at the gateway of Mayfair's most fashionable street is growing and the lists will soon be full... but you can still pay 43 a visit for one off their regular parties or to attend club nights in the ballroom. We went along to see what all the fuss is about and found ourselves smiling from ear to ear. This is a fun spot, decked out in eccentric but comfortable furniture, with a top notch music policy, great food and drink and an entertainingly diverse crowd.
43 South Molton Street is decorated in the style of a country house, and it has the same vibe of welcoming chaos as coats are stuffed 'somewhere' by the staff and trays full of beguiling cocktails shepherded around the 4 different floors. Most of the dancing is in the basement which boasts a huge, crisp system but there were sporadic outbreaks of funky strutting throughout the night, memorably on the top floor dining room table. The smart crowd and impromptu tail-shaking made us feel we had crashed rather a cool house party. Or was that the cocktails?
Drinks prices are what you might expect in Mayfair but service is refreshingly friendly and attentive, and with a registered tequila master behind the bar cocktails are worth paying for. The worn but stylish antique furniture that is 43's signature is a lot more comfortable than most nightclub settees. Opulent, welcoming chairs, friendly faces, great booze and finger food and some classy music combined to make us feel very much at home in this place.
It may not be easy to score membership but if you get a chance to visit this place we recommend it - 43 is an entirely welcoming club and has a beguiling atmosphere that will make you want to stay, and party.
