Owned and part-funded by University College London, the Bloomsbury was completed in 1968 on the site of a bomb-damaged church. The years have not been kind to this style of architecture and its plate glass and dark brick front now looks drab and un-theatrical. Inside, however, it is a well-designed space, with a small art gallery in the foyer and a comfortable auditorium. The Bloomsbury is a theatre that has a distinctly student appeal, with a focus on experimental works, live music and cheap-and-cheerful touring companies. For three months of each year, it is given over to student productions, which are often of a low quality, since UCL has no dedicated performing arts department. Its strongest suit currently is stand-up comedy and it is a regular spot for many of the biggest names in the country.Bloomsbury Theatre events
