The Skylon has three function rooms; the largest can hold a maximum of 140 guests, the smallest is ideal for 30.
The Royal Festival Hall's refurbishment has done away with 'The People's Palace', the marvellously 1950s restaurant that used to occupy this space, and replaced it with a slightly more respectable Brasserie and Restaurant. The biggest draw remains the view of the Thames, among the best of any restaurant in London, and the dining room is laid out so that most tables get a good share of the windows. The magnificently brutalist decor has been softened and Conranised, though there is still a decent weight of concrete kicking around to remind you of the building's origins in the Festival of Britain. The brasserie menu is simple and impressive, with an emphasis on seasonality, while the more elaborate restaurant menu combines rich meats with sweet fruity sauces. Prices are verging on the excessive, but with such an amazing view this is hardly surprising. Pop into the bar if you want to enjoy this evocative spot without breaking the bank.Skylon images
